Victorian eclecticism at its finest!
This is my recreation of
Olana, the 1872 mansion of landscape painter
Frederic Edwin Church. Sitting atop a hill overlooking the Hudson River Valley in upstate New York, this large and ornate home is a mixture of Persian, Victorian, and Moorish styles. The core of the home is built around a great hall, meant to mimic the open-air courtyards of Near East. While furnished exotically, the mansion retains a classic layout, forming an stately enfilade from the entry to the artist's studio at the back. There are five bedrooms for family and guests and three additional bedrooms for staff.
For more than a year, I had been trying to recreate Olana. While I had envisioned having all the split levels and stairs, I was thwarted (as always) by the five floor limitation. Thus the floor plan is somewhat simplified, though still touching upon all the major rooms and features. Restricting myself to only EPs and SPs, some rooms are more faithful in my recreation of the decoration, while others I had to employ a bit of artistic license. The landscaping is rather simple, suggesting the home's rural surrounding.

However, in some of the pictures you can see the skylight from
Roaring Heights. I did not include it with the lot, but if you own that world, I highly recommend you place it, as the actual home does have a skylight there.
Of note:
The side door off the room with the Mah Jong table is inaccessible due to the awnings. I didn't think this was much of a problem, as there are six other doors leading outside (or in).
This lot is very detailed and might not run smoothly on lower end computers.
I used
Buckley's fix for Ambitions wallpaper, and I highly recommend it.
I also used
armiel's brass bed fix,
Menaceman44's Generations armoire fix, and
HugeLunatic's Pets painting unlock. Those unlocks and fixes are not required, but recommended as well.
Additional information about Olana can be found at the
Library of Congress and
olana.org.
Special thanks to armiel, Buckley, Menaceman44, and Huge Lunatic for the fixes and unlocks. Love that stuff so much!
