I think it's just an illusion to make you feel like your Sims have extra special, individual identities.

Favorite foods cause your sim to have a greater chance of choosing it when making food, but otherwise provide no real benefit.

I thought Sims experienced a more satisfying meal (in terms of moodlet points, not satiating hunger) if they ate their favorite food.

Nope. Interesting idea for implementing, but not how it works by default. The only effect favorite food has is that the sim has a slight bias towards choosing it automatically, and does a silly animation while eating it.

Are these hex codes actually somewhere in the game files? I ask this because I found several differing lists in various places and they all claimed to have been extracted from the game files. Which makes me wonder why now I have three different hex codes for pink alone.

I'd just like to point out that since it is now fairly conclusively established that "favorite color" has no effect whatsoever in the game, there's no reason to think that there IS even a single "correct" hex code for "pink"

Not only that... even if you use an eyedropper tool in a graphics app to select the swatch as it shows up in CAS from a screenshot, and determine the hex code that way, the swatch is not flat... it is a diagonal gradient. There may be no two pixels in it which are exactly the same color..

I personally believe that it just adds a little more of a personality or character to the sim you create. Some simmers (me) enjoy thinking up backgrounds for their sims and it just adds to a little bit of extras into the character. If that even makes sense.

You should have read the warnings and rules before nekroing this ancient thread

Like patient confidentiality, I find the rules against thread necromancy - threncromancy - a grievous violations of my rights to free speech. Nah, i'm just forgiving over this because I'm as #blessed as a white teen girl on Instagram during pumpkin spice season to see a J. M. Pescado post.

Okay so I did find one thing some of the favorites are useful for.

Starting with the one in question, color: if you have the Ambitions expansion there is a career where your sim can be an interior designer. Getting to know your client and finding out their favorite color can help add points to your design by using their favorite color. (You can probably look up the color code and use the design tool to make design enabled objects in that color)

Food: Sometimes Sims gets a want to make a friend or loved ones favorite meal. Finding out what that is can help with this want. If they won't talk about it and your sim is not a vampire you can just hold onto the want and make everything you know how to make until the want is fulfilled but that takes a while and isn't worth it for everyone (gamers choice).

Music: while it may or may not add a moodlet Sims tend to be a little happier dancing to their favorite music and are more likely to autonomously turn the radio on to that station.

I might be wrong, but I think it will affect sim's attractions scores, so if they have the same favorites and traits it'll give attraction points

You are absolutely right, that’s exactly what it is there for. My most amazing couples always had a lot in common, foods, colours, music and compatible Star Signs, another one most people are unaware of. Together with some, not all, compatible traits. It seems more important for favourites and star signs to align imho, as long as you don’t have conflicting traits like slob/neat, but sometimes even that can work

I play autonomously and never force sims to get together. If they don’t get together themselves, then they can stay single. I do use Blue’s mod from TFM site but have experimented without and always found that compatibility is the most important thing, mmm, just like in RL, how weird

I once had a sim couple that not only got together and got married autonomously, which is why I use Blue’s mod, but had 18 nooboo’s and I lost count of how many grandkids The husband was a loser, so when the grim came the first time (and rejected him) he broke what he was doing, ignored the grim while he walked over and kissed his wife, true

The best relationships are the ones sims chose for themselves, based on stuff that matters, to them anyway play autonomously and have the right mods I say
